Chinese President Xi Jinping has initiated a visit to Cairo, emphasizing the deep-rooted relationship between China and Egypt, and advocating for stronger bilateral ties and increased cooperation. This visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. President Xi, accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, was welcomed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, signaling the importance of the occasion.
In a statement released prior to the visit, Xi underscored the enduring nature of China-Egypt relations, resilient to shifts in the global landscape. He proposed renewed efforts to bolster their comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration. Xi highlighted the alignment of national development goals between the two countries, urging joint endeavors in the Belt and Road Initiative that focus on sustainable, long-term economic projects.
The Chinese leader also pinpointed several fields for enhanced cooperation, including education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He asserted that fostering these exchanges would enhance mutual understanding and solidify the bond between the peoples of China and Egypt.
Xi further emphasized the importance of mutual support on key issues and safeguarding shared interests. He acknowledged Egypt’s pivotal role as a partner in fortifying China’s ties with Arab nations and Africa. As members of the Global South, China and Egypt have significant roles in international coordination, advocating for multilateral cooperation, and contributing to global peace and stability.
This visit is poised to strengthen the political and economic connections between Beijing and Cairo, opening up new opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as trade, infrastructure, and technology. Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt, building on seven decades of diplomatic history and infusing new energy into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
