Vietnam is aiming to bolster its trade and investment ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, focusing on broadening market access and enhancing economic partnerships. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân emphasized the importance of utilizing the Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement more effectively to boost bilateral trade and investment. In addition, she suggested exploring potential upgrades to the agreement and urged the EAEU to tackle trade barriers impacting Vietnamese exports such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
Discussions between the involved parties included improving the coordination of trade data, expediting meetings of their joint committee, and expanding the use of electronic certificates of origin. EAEU officials noted that bilateral trade has nearly doubled, underlining further opportunities for growth and collaboration.
In a separate engagement with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, Xuân advocated for stronger high-level interactions and more profound economic cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt. She also promoted the idea of progressing toward a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement, identifying sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as key areas for potential expansion of cooperation.
These discussions took place in Bishkek during Vietnam’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. This engagement highlights Hanoi’s strategy to reinforce its economic and diplomatic relationships with regional partners, seeking to create a more integrated and mutually beneficial economic landscape.
