South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has stepped back from public engagements upon his return from the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, following medical advice to rest. The Presidency announced that ministers will take on Ramaphosa’s public duties as necessary during his recovery period.

Ramaphosa participated in the 18th BRICS Summit, which took place in New Delhi from September 12 to 13, focusing on key issues such as global governance, economic cooperation, trade, and development. His withdrawal from public appearances comes at a time when Deputy President Paul Mashatile is also recuperating from a medical procedure.

Despite the temporary absence of both Ramaphosa and Mashatile from certain roles, the South African government ensures that all operations and responsibilities are being smoothly managed through their respective offices. The Presidency has not provided further details regarding Ramaphosa’s health condition.

This development emphasizes the continued functionality of South Africa’s leadership, even as its top officials take necessary time for health-related matters. The delegation of duties to ministers illustrates the resilience of governmental processes in the face of unexpected challenges. The public will be informed of any changes or updates regarding the President’s health status as they become available.
