Cape Town is set to undergo a planned power outage affecting over 60 areas as part of critical electricity infrastructure maintenance. Scheduled from 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, until 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, the outage will impact various southern parts of the city, including Muizenberg, St James, Clovelly, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Steenberg, and Westlake.
The City of Cape Town has announced that this maintenance is a part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade aging electricity infrastructure. The objective is to enhance the reliability of the network and bolster the power supply’s resilience. Such upgrades are deemed necessary to ensure a stable and efficient electricity service for the residents.
Residents are advised to turn off electrical appliances before the outage begins to prevent potential damage from power surges when electricity is restored. Despite the scheduled timeframe, electricity may be restored earlier than planned, depending on the progress of the maintenance work.
The city has also cautioned residents to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the maintenance period, even if the power is interrupted. This precautionary measure is aimed at ensuring safety during the outage.
